I avoided all of these apart from outrun & afterburner. A Pirate copy of outrun came with a second hand amiga. I thought my computer was faulty :) and initially wondered why the screen froze at the finish line. Afterburner looked cheap and without the thrill of high speed and scaled gfx, was boring as he'll. I played it twice and then wished I'd saved my money. As for the others in the list: magazine reviews plus my own doubts saved me my money. But most later came out on budget - the cheek of the software houses!

My favourite game was Carrier Command

Aw. I loved Dragons Lair on the c64. Eswat looked accurate. Karnov, ChaseHQ and Hard Drivin are obvious straight-across Spectrum ports. Strangely, ChaseHQ is considered one of the top games for that system. I had street fighter, the US version, and thought it played well, if not the same as the arcade. Double Dragon and Ikari Warriors were very poor.

Watching a lot of videos like this, you start to develop a feel for which games were popular outside the US vs among Americans. And Micro Machines is one of those franchises that comes up among British reviewers. And 9 times out of 10, looking up such a game reveals that it has British developers - sure enough, CodeMasters is from England. It's interesting how things fall geographically like that. I also notice this with games like Speedball II (English developers), Cannon Fodder (English developers), Lemmings (Scottish developers). These were the games we played when growing up here in Australia, on our PCs and our 8-bit systems like Commodores, but aren't spoken about with nostalgia by the Americans. I identify with British video game channels more as a result. I think the distinction is blurred with more modern games. Emblematic of this is that I don't think people realise that Rockstar (same people who made Lemmings) are British and their modern games look American and are probably way more popular there.

Aah the beloved C64. I got it mid 80s in Australia. A lot of these games were recorded by mates and people at school for like 50c a game which didn't really hurt if the game was crap. We're talking Phantom Karate Devils and other drivel. The only games my parents ever paid full price for were Green Beret, which was a whoppin $38.95 (holy crap but it was a great game) and 20 something for a pak called Six Sizzlers that had the shitty Big Trouble in Little China, Firetrap but also the brilliant The Last Ninja and Labyrinth, two of the best games ever in my opinion. However when I got to Spain in 1990 I bought all these shitty mail order games for 10-12 quid like Chase HQ, Final Fight, Double Dragon...a time when C64 game companies were blatantly trying to cash in a quick buck with terrible movie licenses. Lucky we all got a PC mid 90s and the rest is history.

I didn't grow up with the C64, only playing Atari 5200 and NES during the C64's heyday. I've been fascinated by the C64 for a while, and I'm glad that this video exists to help me try out the stuff I've missed out on. Thanks!

my top 10 no particular order: Cannon fodder, Sensible soccer. Gods, Magic pockets. the settlers. Turbo lotus 2, Superfrog, The Blues Brothers. Chuck Rock 2(son of chuck) Jaguar Xj220

I remember for months all the Amiga magazines at the time were gushing over the forthcoming CD32. Then when it came out a mate of mine at the time got one and it was just so boring The only thing 'CD' about it were the soundtracks, but that wasn't enough. So disappointing.

Donkey Kong (not the garbage one by Ocean) is way better on the C64 than the NES. Don't get me wrong the NES version looks close to the arcade too but what it doesn't have is all of the levels. The C64 version (Nintendo official version)is nearly arcade perfect just like the NES version. Also Q*Bert on the C64 looks and plays near identical to the arcade. The NES version looks like @$$.

Quite a few factual inaccuracies, but that aside, a good video.

Why isnt F1 pole position 1 or pole position 2 on this list? They are the best F1 games on snes, much better than nigel mansells championship, more options, randon weather, more realistic damage models and can get random car issues, almost simulator level on the car settings. I found them to be far better than the F1 games mentioned in the list.

Maniac Mansion for me was far better on the C64 than the NES.

I gotta say that I love Pac-man, Qbert and Frogger the best.

No Premiere, Shadow of the Beast 2, Monkey Island 2, Project X, Chuck Rock, Indiana Jones and the fate of Atlantis, SWIV or Soccer Kid. ? Premiere was the best platformer ever created for the Amiga.v

Flood, by bullfrog is IMO the best platform game on the Amiga, definitely check it out. Honourable mention must also go to Wiz-n-liz by psygnosis.

I had many hours of fun with Silkworm on my A500 back in the day in 2 player mode. Having to look after the jeep always made me laugh. Good game and yes the sound effects were awesome.

Had both machines the Amiga blew the ST out of the water for everything. The ST offered nothing poor User Interface limited resolutions Limited colors chip sound was ok

Obviously the Arcade is no 1. However the Gameboy Advanced version is by far the best IMO. But this also looks and sounds great 👍

Very good list. I would probably include in it Battlezone, Joust, Chopper Command, Pole Position, Combat, Super Breakout, Qbert instead of some of the titles in this list such as Raiders of the Lost Ark, Circus, Kaboom, Frostbite, California Games, Defender 2. But hey, that's my humble opinion.

I thought Darwin 4081 was a great arcade conversion of Darwin 4078, I got it from an import store back in the day, In retrospect I should have picked Gaiares as I had them both in my hand in the store.
